Newcastle United Transfer News: Phil Jones, Benoît Badiashile and Keylor Navas

Newcastle United transfer news

They may be the world’s richest football club but signing players in the January transfer window is proving difficult for Newcastle United. The Magpies may have added Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood but here is the latest Newcastle United transfer news.

Newcastle United Transfer News: Phil Jones Available, Benoît Badiashile Rejected and Keylor Navas on Radar

Bid Rejected for Benoît Badiashille

According to The Guardian, Newcastle have seen a £33 million bid rejected for Monaco youngster Benoît Badiashille.

The central defender, who has played 12 times in Ligue 1 this season, is seen as one for the future but he won’t be making a move to the northeast of England just yet. However, Newcastle have quickly identified other targets.

Diego Carlos Move Edging Closer

Despite seeing a move for Badiashille rejected, the Guardian claim that a move for Sevilla defender Diego Carlos is edging closer.

The 28-year-old, who joined the La Liga side in 2019, would be open to a move to England and the report suggests that ‘progress has been made’ in an attempt to land the Brazilian.

Phil Jones Targeted by the Magpies

After seeing their bid for the France U21 defender rejected, Newcastle have turned their attention to Manchester United defender Phil Jones.

The Red Devils have set a £15 million price tag on the 29-year-old defender, who has made just one appearance this season and is deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

Having turned out over 200 times for Manchester United, Jones would bring some needed experience to the Newcastle backline but they may have to do battle with Burnley, who have also shown interest in the defender.

Donny van de Beek Not Interested

Despite being out of favour at Old Trafford, midfielder Donny van de Beek has already ruled out a move to St. James’ Park.

The 24-year-old has declined a move to the northeast mainly for their perilous league position and the Netherlands international looks set to either fight for his place at Old Trafford or seek a move elsewhere.

Keylor Navas Linked

Another big name linked with the Magpies is Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas. However, the Ligue 1 club aren’t keen on allowing him to leave.

The 35-year-old Costa Rica international joined Les Parisiens in 2019 from Real Madrid but his long-term future at the Parc des Princes is under threat after the summer arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Newcastle have Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman on their books but the Premier League’s 19th placed side remain in the hunt for a new goalkeeper.
