Romelu Lukaku Dropped For Liverpool Game

Lukaku Dropped Over Tuchel & Chelsea Comments In Recent Interview

Lukaku will not take part in Chelsea‘s game vs Liverpool on Sunday afternoon. The striker was involved in a controversial interview earlier this week where he seemed to criticize Thomas Tuchel’s tactics. The Belgian further spoke about his love for Inter Milan and how he wishes to re-join them despite his abrupt departure earlier this year.

David Ornstein confirmed that the striker was dropped for the game at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel previously mentioned his disapproval of Lukaku’s comments, stating that the interview was ‘not helpful.’

Chelsea will now face Liverpool in a must win-game without their most expensive signing of all time. The striker has faced injury troubles since his return to Stamford Bridge, but he has two goals in his last two games.

Chelsea’s recent poor form means that they are 11 points behind leaders Manchester City. Liverpool are only 1 point behind the Blues and would overtake them with a win this afternoon.

Lukaku’s comments unnerve Thomas Tuchel

Lukaku’s absence comes as he criticized the current situation at Chelsea. He stated he would have stayed at Inter Milan if a new contract had been offered.

“If there had been the offer of a new contract from Inter last summer as I wanted… we would not be doing this interview now here from London, but quietly from Milano” he revealed.

The 28-year-old constantly flirted with Inter Milan throughout his interview and also praised clubs such as Bayern Munich, Barcelona, & Real Madrid. The comments were not what Chelsea had hoped to hear.

Lukaku returned to Chelsea in the summer of 2021 for a reported fee of €115 million. He became the club’s most expensive signing ever and upon joining, he expressed his love of the London side. Tuchel confirmed that Lukaku would not be leaving the club in the January transfer window.

Tuchel was asked in a press conference how Chelsea could get the best out of Lukaku, to which the German boss replied: “Training, training, playing. Training, playing, training, sleeping, eating good, training, playing, sleeping, eat good, drink a lot of water, sleep, train and don’t give interviews”
