Inter Milan Progressing on Matthias Ginter Transfer Amid Bayern Munich Interest

Matthias Ginter transfer

Inter Milan are progressing on their Matthias Ginter transfer amid interest in the German from closer to home as Bayern Munich continue to monitor the situation. This comes according to the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano, who also mentioned that the Serie A champions are close to sealing a deal to sign Andre Onana on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.

Ginter an Experienced Option Yet to Have Ventured Outside of Germany

Centre-back Matthias Ginter has spent his entire career in Germany.

The 27-year-old has played in the Bundesliga with Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund, and, most recently, Borussia Monchengladbach.

He is a regular starter for the West German outfit, having appeared in all but two of their fixtures this season.

Ginter, however, announced over social media that he would be leaving Monchengladbach come the end of the campaign.

“After long deliberations, I have decided not to renew my expiring contract,” Ginter wrote on Instagram, “After five fantastic years at Borussia Mönchengladbach, it is difficult for me to take this step, but I’ve decided upon a different path for my personal and professional development.

“I owe a lot to the fans of Borussia and shall always carry this club in my heart, now I will go with a full head of steam into the second half of the season. Those who know me know that I will give everything to accomplish the goals still possible in this season together with everyone else.”

As a World Cup winner, the German would add a lot of experience to any side, and neither Serie A leaders Inter Milan nor Bayern Munich, who currently top the Bundesliga table, are an exception to that rule.

Onana Also on the Move

Another player to have officially stated that he plans to leave his current club at the end of the season, Andre Onana’s signature is in high demand.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper’s contract with Dutch giants Ajax runs out this summer, but it is now expected that he will pen a four-year deal with Inter that will see him move in the summer, replacing the ageing Samir Handanovic.

Barcelona had been in the race for the 25-year-old, but appear to have gone in a different direction. The Catalan side recently confirmed the signing of former Manchester City attacker Ferran Torres.
