Atalanta Award Manager Gian Piero Gasperini With New Deal

Gian Piero Gasperini

Series A side Atalanta have extended the contract of manager Gian Piero Gasperini. The Italian’s contract goes on until June 2024 with an option to extend for another year.

Atalanta and Gasperini have taken Serie A by storm recently, so this comes as no surprise for the team. This season they’re continuing their excitement.

Atalanta Extend Manager Gian Piero Gasperini

Continued Success

Gasperini took over the reins with Atalanta in 2016 and has not looked back since. La Dea play an exciting style of football with fast-paced and fluid attacks. More than that, the club is fantastic at developing players. They don’t always have the largest transfer budget but continue to play well. Selling players every summer to “bigger” clubs isn’t ideal, but Gasperini finds ways to recover.

Atalanta qualified for the Europa League in Gasperini’s first year after a sixth-place finish. In 2017/18, they won their Europa League group, made it to the Coppa Italia semi-finals and finished in seventh in Serie A.

The following year, 2018/19, brought even more success. Gasperini’s men finished third in Serie A, earning their first-ever Champions League bid. They also reached the Coppa Italia final but lost to Lazio.

In 2019/20, Atalanta made it to the knock-out stages in their first-ever Champions League. They emerged victorious against Valencia in the Round of 16 but fell to Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals. Atalanta finished third in Serie A.

Another strong year followed. Atalanta finished third in Serie A once again before falling to Real Madrid in the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

Moving Forward

As things stand, the club sit at fourth place in Serie A. In the Champions League, Atalanta are third place in Group F behind Manchester United and Villareal.

The team is full of quality players. The list includes Duvan Zapata, Josip Ilicic, Luis Muriel, Marten de Roon, Robin Gosens, Rafael Toloi, and plenty more.

Gasperini continues to build a culture of success and development, along with an exciting brand, so this contract extension shows that this will not end anytime soon.
