Juventus Looking to Strengthen Midfield

According to ESPN, there is a shortlist of players Juventus is monitoring to strengthen their midfield. The list includes Miralem Pjanic, Axel Witsel, and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Juventus are in dire need of more talent. They recently secured deals for Manuel Locatelli and Moise Kean, but of course, lost one of the top players in world football in Cristiano Ronaldo. To make matters worse, Juventus has only secured one point from their first two matches, which included a loss to newly-promoted Empoli.

The Options

The first option is Pjanic. The Bosnian formerly starred for Juventus and is eager to return and once again play for Massimiliano Allegri. Pjanic’s time at Barcelona has not been pretty, while Barcelona remain desperate to clear their books.

Pjanic is still just 31-years-old. For a midfielder, he likely has a few years left in the tank. After losing Ronaldo, Juventus definitely need experienced veteran leadership. As a former star of the club, it makes sense as to why both parties are mutually interested in a return.

Another option is Axel Witsel. The Belgian currently plays for Borussia Dortmund. Witsel is one of the more underappreciated midfielders in football, as he remains a consistent star. He’s certainly a ‘plug and play’ option for any team, and should emerge as a starter at Juventus should they make a move. His contract with Dortmund expires next summer, making him a possible cheaper option.

The last option is Tchouameni from Monaco. His profile is different from Pjanic and Witsel, as Tchouameni is just 21-years-old. He’s talented and a move for the future, but Juventus need impact right now.

On paper, Juventus’ squad is still talented with the likes of Paulo Dybala, Federico Chiesa, Locatelli, Arthur, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Alex Sandro, and more. With that being said, their early performances indicate that they need a boost.
