Depth in Attack

Atletico Madrid have finally ended their pursuit of a striker. The reigning Spanish champions had been in search of a forward this summer to improve their attack. Colchoneros had been heavily linked with Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic, but the deal failed to materialise.

A versatile player, Cunha is capable of playing in any of the attacking positions across the pitch. The Brazilian’s versatility makes him an important asset in an Atletico squad renowned for adaptable players. The arrival of Cunha also provides healthy competition in a talented attacking department consisting of players like Luis Suarez and Joao Felix.

A product of the Cortiba academy, Cunha moved to Europe in 2017 to join Swiss club Sion before making a single appearance for the Brazilian team. The forward spent a season with Sion and moved to RB Leipzig the following season after catching the eye of Die Roten Bullen. The Brazilian had an impressive debut season in the Bundesliga but struggled to get starts for RB Leipzig. Despite his limited starts, Cunha managed to score nine goals in 39 appearances for RB Leipzig in his debut season.

Cunha joined Hertha Berlin in 2019 in search of regular appearances. The Brazilian quickly established himself as one of the regulars in the first team. Cunha spent a season and a half with the capital club before making his move to Atletico Madrid. During this period, Cunha made 39 appearances and scored 13 goals for Hertha Berlin.
