AC Milan Interested in Pietro Pellegri

Pietro Pellegri

According to Gianluca di Marzio, AC Milan are on the hunt for another striker. They’re interested in AS Monaco’s Pietro Pellegri. The young Italian, born in 2001, joined Monaco from Genoa in 2018, and Milan were interested at the time as well. He fits the mold of what the Rossoneri are looing for – a young striker to learn from experienced veterans such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud.

The Player and the Fit

Pellegri was a hot commodity while at Genoa, despite only scoring three goals in ten official matches. Monaco picked up him betting on his youth and potential, but it remains untapped. Pellegri scored one goal in three Ligue 1 matches in 2018/19, and had one goal and one assist in 16 league matches last season.

There’s work to be done, but Pellegri is just 20-years-old. Time is on his side. Milan and manager Stefano Pioli are ready to ignite his growth.

Pellegri holds all the talent necessary to become a great striker. He stands at 1.88 meters. His height allows him to win aerial duels with ease, but also doesn’t stop him from exceling in other facets. Often times, height doesn’t correlate with pace, but this isn’t the case for Pellegri. The young Italian holds plenty of pace, allowing him to dash past defenders to reach a perfectly placed through or long ball.

Lastly, his ball control is definitely something to keep an eye on. He’s very calm with the ball at his feet, and knows the move he’s going to make before the ball gets to him. These are all ideal traits for a striker.

On a surface level, Pellegri has the traits of a young Ibrahimovic. Clearly he’s not anywhere near that level, but joining Milan allows him to work alongside the legendary Swede every single day. Pellegri will be a fantastic third striking option for Milan. Furthermore, he’ll surely improve under the tutelage of strikers who’ve seen it all like Ibrahimovic and Giroud.
