Part of PSG set-up since 2015, the defender made his professional debut last season after graduating from the youth academy. The 18-year-old made nine appearances for the Parisiens last season, starting six of them. He also scored his first professional goal playing as a right midfielder against Strasburg last season. The arrival of Sergio Ramos has meant Pembele has been pushed further down the pecking order.

A regular in France age-group squads, Pembele has represented France at the U16, U17 and U18 levels. He was also part of the French squad that finished third in the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup.

The French club is keen to sell some of their players this transfer window following the arrival of Lionel Messi, which is likely to make a huge impact on their existing wage budget.

Building a Young Core

Bordeaux have been focused on signing young players so far this season. After being on the brink of bankruptcy last season, the Girondins are keen to build a young squad for their future. They have already signed four players, including Pembele, with all four of them aged 23 or below.

What Was Said?

Bordeaux technical director, Admar Lopez, while speaking to the club website said: “For this position, Timothee has always been our first option during this transfer window. We have known the player from a young age. He has the perfect profile to evolve in modern football and has an “unusual” maturity, considering his age. In our club, Timothee will be able to evolve in a context that will allow him to develop all his talent.”
