Rafa Mir Set to Sign for Atletico Madrid From Wolves

Rafa Mir

Atletico Madrid are set to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Rafa Mir, reports Fabrizio Romano.

Mir joined Wolves from Valencia in 2018 but has made just four appearances for the club in that time.

The vast majority of his Wolves career has been spent away on loan. He had spells at Las Palmas, Nottingham Forest and Huesca.

Atletico Madrid Set to Sign Rafa Mir

Deal Close

Romano reports that negotiations between Atletico and Wolves are now at their final stages, meaning Mir is set to leave England with just four appearances to his name.

His debut for Wolves came in January 2018, three days after signing for the then-Championship club, in an FA Cup tie against Swansea City.

After making a further FA Cup appearance and winning two appearances in the Championship, Mir Las Palmas on loan that summer. Upon his return a year later, he linked up with Nottingham Forest but struggled for goals and minutes in the East Midlands, which led to the loan being cut short.

He immediately joined Huesca on an 18-month loan deal, where he scored 22 goals in 56 games, which has won the admiration of Atletico Madrid.

Mir has already agreed personal terms with the club, so Wolves and Atletico now only need to complete their negotiations.

Lage Aiming for More Wolves Signings

With the start of the Premier League season only a week away, Wolves fans have been calling on the club to make some more signings.

New manager Bruno Lage has answered those calls and says that he hopes to make “three or four” new additions to the squad.

Speaking to Liam Keen of the Express & Star, he said: “It’s a process. I think we need three or four guys (more players) in different positions. I don’t say now the positions. Top players to help us to be competitive, because, see the good example is what happened with Raul [Jimenez] last year.”
