Roma are closing in on signing Eldor Shomurodov from Genoa, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Italian side have been keen on adding another striker during this transfer window.
The Giallorossi are reportedly signing the Uzbekistan international for a fee of around €18 million. Roma turned their attention to Shormudov after Bayer Leverkusen entered into advanced talks with Sardar Azmoun.
Roma to Sign Eldor Shomurodov
Career to Date
Born in Uzbekistan, Shomurdov started his career with the Uzbek club Mash’al Mubarek. The striker progressed through the club’s youth academy and eventually made his debut in 2015. Despite making under ten appearances in the league in his debut season, Shormudov caught the eye of Uzbek giants Bunyodkor. Impressed by Shomurdov, they signed the striker in 2015.
Shomurodov spent three seasons playing for Bunyodkor in the Uzbekistan Super League. During that period, the striker made 97 appearances and scored 24 times for the club. His performances for Bunyodkor caught the eye of the Russian club FC Rostov.
Shomurdov was hardly prolific in Russia. The striker went about with his business and only scored more than ten goals in just one of the three-and-a-half seasons in the Russian Premier League. The Uzbek made 91 appearances and scored 18 goals for Rostov.
Shormudov moved to Genoa in 2020 after catching the eye of the Grifone, becoming just the second Uzbek to play in Serie A. In his only season with Genoa, the striker made 31 appearances and scored eight goals for the Italian side. Despite starting just 16 matches last season, Shormudov scored eight goals and finished as the club’s joint second-highest goalscorer.
Genoa Interested in Junior Hernani
Genoa are interested in signing Parma midfielder Hernani. The Brazilian-born midfielder is reportedly on the transfer market following Parma’s relegation from Serie A last season. But, the Italian side will have to stave off competition from Gremio and Galatasaray if they want to sign the midfielder.
