Galatasaray Sign Patrick van Aanholt

The Dutch International Brings More Quality to the Turkish Side

Turkish giants, Galatasaray have officially signed Dutch left-back Patrick van Aanholt on a free transfer. The 30-year-old signs a three-year contract that will see him tied to the Turk Telekom Arena until 2024. Van Aanholt was available as a free agent after he ran down his contract with Crystal Palace.

The arrival of the left-back instantly brings more quality to the Turkish side. The position was an area of concern for Galatasaray last season. Marcelo Sarrachi, who was the first-choice left-back, was on loan from RB Leipzig. He struggled with injuries and played just 30 matches during the season. Omer Bayram and Emre Tasdemir played as back-ups for Sarrachi, but they were far from convincing. The latter also missed a chunk of last season with injuries.

Van Aanholt had his fair share of knocks last season, but still looked a threat whenever he played. The Dutchman provides a better attacking threat. He has good crossing ability and is very good with the ball at his feet. Having played in the Premier League, Van Aanholt is capable of handling the pressure of playing for a Turkish giant like Galatasaray.

A Very Busy Week for Galatasaray

Galatasaray have been very busy the last couple of days. The club have officially announced the signing of young right-back Sacha Boey from Rennes. They also recently announced the transfer of Alexandru Cicaldau from Romanian side Universitatea Craiova.

According to Fabrizio Romano, they have also opened talks with Parma regarding a potential deal for midfielder Junior Hernani.
