Arsenal Interested in Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez

Lautaro Martinez

Arsenal are continuing with their lofty ambitions this summer having now made an enquiry for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, reports The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath. The Gunners have already completed the signings of Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga, while they also retain an interest in Martin Odegaard and James Maddison, amongst others.

In addition, they are set to complete the £50 million signing of Ben White from Brighton & Hove Albion, which is expected to be confirmed this week.

Inter Don’t Want to Sell

Any deal for Martinez, though, will be difficult for Arsenal to do. Inter do not want to sell the 23-year-old, who they see as a key part of their Serie A title defence having won the Italian top division last season.

Inter would prefer Martinez to extend his contract instead. He currently has two further years left to run on his contract.

Arsenal Going for It

After the disappointment of missing out on European football last season, Arsenal fans will be happy to see the club going after so many top players in this transfer window.

With White set to add to the earlier additions of Tavares and Lokonga, they will have already spent a big chunk of money. But their spending does not appear to be slowing down, with a third bid in excess of £30 million expected for Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale, while there has been interest in Odegaard, Maddison and Sassuolo midfield Manuel Locatelli.

Runarrson Deal Falls Through

Their move for a goalkeeper, though, could be scuppered by the news that Alex Runarrson’s loan to Turkish side Altay Spor has fallen through.

The Iceland international, who struggled in his debut season at the Emirates, was set to join the club on a season-long loan, but terms could not be agreed and a new deal will now have to be sought for the 26-year-old.
