Alex Runarsson to Move to Altay Spor on Loan
A Fresh Start for Alex Runarsson
Runarsson will join Turkish side Altay Spor on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal. The 26-year-old struggled to adjust to the spotlight of the Premier League following his move to Arsenal last season. The shot-stopper will travel to Turkey next week for his medicals ahead of his move.
The Iceland international had a decent debut, keeping a clean sheet against Dundalk in the Europa League. But an error against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup saw Runarsson’s confidence hit rock bottom. He fell down the pecking order after Arsenal signed Mat Ryan on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. Runarsson still managed six appearances for the Gunners last season. The change in surroundings could help Alex Runarsson regain his confidence.
Update on the Goalkeeper Situation in Arsenal
The Gunners are reportedly preparing a third bid for Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale. Mikel Arteta has identified the 23-year-old as the Gunners’ primary goalkeeper target. The goalkeeper had an impressive season with the Blades and won their Player of the Season award, despite suffering relegation last season.
Arthur Okonkwo is likely to replace Runarsson as the club’s third-choice keeper. The 19-year-old is one of several promising goalkeepers in the Arsenal youth academy. He was a regular in the U23 side for Arsenal last season.
Arsenal to Announce Ben White Soon
Arsenal are likely to complete the signing of Ben White this week. The England international will have his medicals ahead of the proposed £5o million from Brighton. The 23-year-old will be the third player to join the Arsenal during this transfer window.
