Crystal Palace Front-Runners to Sign Joachim Andersen

Joachim Andersen

Crystal Palace have emerged as the leading club in the chase for Lyon defender Joachim Andersen, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Denmark international, who spent last season on loan at Fulham, has had offers and interest from many clubs, but Palace are said to be close to an agreement.

Joachim Andersen Nearing Crystal Palace Move

Patrick Vieira Impressing With Additions

Palace were in desperate need of a re-build after the Roy Hodgson era came to an end last season. Many players were out of contract leaving a lot of gaps to be filled going into this campaign.

The club are quietly doing some good business under new manager Patrick Vieria, having signed exciting teenager Michael Olise from Reading and centre-back Marc Guehi from Chelsea.

They are also said to be leading the way to sign Ozan Kabak from Schalke. The Turkish centre-back spent the second half of last season aiding Liverpool’s defensive crisis, but the Reds opted to not make the move permanent.

Andersen was also said to be a target for Tottenham Hotspur this summer. However, they are closing in on deals for Takehiro Tomiyasu of Bologna and Atalanta’s Cristian Romero instead.

A Good Addition?

Given Palace’s need to strengthen at the back, the addition of a 25-year-old full international with Premier League experience seems like the perfect deal.

Andersen spent last season on loan at Fulham and clearly did enough to impress the many clubs that have been chasing his signature, despite the side’s eventual relegation back to the Championship.

He has also made eight appearances for Denmark since his debut in 2019 and impressed in the country’s run to the semi-finals of Euro 2020.
