Borussia Dortmund Transfer News: Interest Shown in Merih Demiral, Donyell Malen Set to Be Unveiled

Borussia Dortmund transfer news

With Jadon Sancho’s departure now confirmed, the Borussia Dortmund transfer news has picked up as they seek reinforcements. One of those reinforcements looks set to be PSV forward Donyell Malen. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Dutchman is set to be unveiled as a Dortmund player following the conclusion of his medical.

The deal, worth a reported €30 million, could turn out to be one of the bargains of the summer and once again highlights Dortmund’s transfer genius.

They know the drill by now; they’ve gone through a departure as big as Sancho’s so many times before bringing in the next biggest star. They may be a selling club, but, more importantly, they are a sustainable club.

With Malen all but sealed, Dortmund’s attention has reportedly turned to defensive reinforcements. According to Romano, the German’s have shown an interest in taking Juventus centre-back Merih Demiral to the Bundesliga. The defender will cost €35 million if any they want to complete a deal.

Malen Deal Kills Two Birds With One Stone

The transfer news that Borussia Dortmund have landed the signature of Donyell Malen will leave fans delighted. The deal kills two birds with one stone. He acts as a direct replacement for Jadon Sancho, with similar pace and extra hunger for goals, and if the scenario arrives, can replace Erling Haaland in the frontline.

For €30 million, Borussia Dortmund may have just replaced two of their best players. Whilst Malen doesn’t carry all of the same traits as Sancho, he offers a different element to the Dortmund attack with his pace, movement and natural striking instincts.

That bodes well if Haaland departs, too, with Malen carrying the ability to lead the line in behind.

Demiral Can Add Needed Freshness to Dortmund Backline

If you take a look at Borussia Dortmund’s backline, it comes as no surprise to see them linked with 23-year-old Merih Demiral. Within their defence, they have 32-year-old Mats Hummels fulfilling the role of leader next to Manuel Akanji or Dan-Axel Zagadou.

The latter duo haven’t always impressed, but have completed the necessary job enough times to warrant a place. Meanwhile, Hummels, although rich in experience, is running out of time at the top of European football. The Bundesliga side need a replacement, and Demiral can offer that.

He is yet to reach his prime and still has plenty left to learn, making a move to Dortmund perfect. If any club knows how to develop players into stars of tomorrow, it is Borussia Dortmund, as proven on so many occasions.
