Harvey Elliott Signs New Liverpool Deal

Harvey Elliott

18-year-old Harvey Elliott has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool. The winger became the youngest player to ever feature in the Premier League at 16-years-old when at Fulham. The record was enough to earn him a move to Merseyside and, ever since, Liverpool fans have been desperate to see him at Anfield on a regular basis.

Many believed Elliott would struggle with the physicality of the Championship when on loan at Blackburn Rovers last season. By some contrast, the teenager was making those in their prime look like the rookies, tallying 18 goal involvements. In fact, only Emi Buendia and Michael Olise assisted more goals than Elliott’s 11.

Now back at Anfield for pre-season, the youngster has an opportunity to further impress Jurgen Klopp and earn himself a place in the first team.

Liverpool’s Internal Solution

The Liverpool frontline came under plenty of fire last season for their lack of goals at times. The real problem was that Liverpool didn’t have enough backup to rest the front three, however.

When Diogo Jota was injured, Klopp had no choice but to persist with the classic trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, who all needed a rest. And this led to fans calling for action; for business to be done to ensure the future remains as positive as the present. Yet, with Harvey Elliott to call upon, have Liverpool already got themselves a solution to their growing problem?

The teenager will only improve as the years tick by and should be primed and ready to take Salah’s place on the right-hand side as the Egyptian concludes his best years. So why splash the cash? Why not trust in the internal solution you already have at your disposal? Elliott can certainly do the job, and Liverpool should at least offer him the opportunity to do so.
