Brighton & Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey has come onto the radar of Tottenham Hotspur as a potential signing this summer, according to Sky Sports. Tottenham have recently confirmed their new Director of Football Fabio Paratici, who will be in charge of transfers, and Lamptey is a young player said to excite him.
Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey of Interest to Tottenham
Brighton unearthed a star player in Tariq Lamptey, who really caught the eye as Brighton maintained their Premier League status for another year. Lamptey joined the Seagulls in the 2020 January transfer window from Spurs’ London rivals Chelsea, who are said to have earned around £3 million from the sale.
Tottenham are looking for a new right-back, with Serge Aurier edging close to a move back to Paris Saint-Germain and Matt Doherty not performing to the levels that were expected when he signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Doherty is also 29-years-old and Spurs would like a younger option for the position.
Two Years Left
Lamptey has around two years left on his Brighton contract and manager Graham Potter will not want to be selling one of his star players. Premier League survival means Brighton have a stronger hand to play compared to if they had been relegated to the Championship.
Ben White is another Brighton defender who is also being chased by Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal with Brighton wanting in the region of £50 million for the player, so should they consider selling Lamptey, Tottenham will need to forget any ideas of getting the player on the cheap as Brighton will want a big offer to even make them consider a deal.
Tottenham struggled defensively last season and the new manager, expected to be former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca, will look to build a new squad from the back.
