Fabio Paratici Confirmed as New Spurs Director of Football
Man Behind Exciting Recruitment Appointed
Paratici is a former administrator and has been the technical director at Juventus for over 11 years. His enthusiasm for youth is what attracted Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to appoint him and also the fact that he has a history of picking up players from the free transfer list. With Tottenham struggling with debts from the new stadium as well as the loss of income through football and hospitality business due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Paratici is someone who ticks a lot of boxes for the frugal Levy.
Cristiano Ronaldo Deal
Paratici has been involved with deals involving the likes of Paul Pogba but his biggest deal came in 2018 when he negotiated the transfer of one of football’s all-time greatest players in Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid to Juventus. That kind of deal would be exciting to Spurs fans although a signing of that magnitude is not necessarily one that Levy would sanction.
Aaron Ramsey Controversy
One free signing that did not go down well at Juventus was ironically that of former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The player joined despite injuries blighting his career at Tottenham’s North London rivals and the salary the player was given of £6.45 million a year was a big hole in the overall budget of Juventus.
Fabio Paratici Confirmed – Huge Rebuild Required
Following two years of successive failure to qualify for the Champions League, Paratici has a huge job on his hands to identify the players to push Spurs back into the top four and to start fighting for silverware. It is a job that will require resilience and trust between him and Levy.
