Exciting Prospect

Richards has impressed since making his debut for Reading in 2017. The full-back has become one of the most exciting attacking full-backs in the division.

The 23-year-old has made 104 appearances during his time at the Madejski Stadium. His first goal for the club came in his debut season in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

Although it is his attacking qualities that have caught the eye of Munich, the defender also excels defensively too. Richards has averaged 2.8 tackles per game in the Championship this season, the most in the division.

Speaking about his move to the German champions, Richards said to the club website: “My move to FC Bayern is a great honour for me.

“A dream has come true. I’m proud to be wearing the shirt of one of the world’s biggest clubs.

“I hope I can help the team continue to be successful in the future.”

Sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, said: “We’re delighted Omar is coming to FC Bayern.

“Omar is a technically gifted player on the left side of defence. He finds good solutions going forward, he’s very alert and we trust him to play a good role in our team.”

Although there will be a big step up from the Championship, the 23-year-old is expected to add competition at left-back for Alphonso Davies. The Canadian is one of the best left-backs in the world, which will be a huge boost for Richards’ game.

Richards will be hoping that he can follow in the footsteps of Jude Bellingham, who made the step up from the Championship to the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund last summer. The 17-year-old has scored five goals and registered four assists in his first season with the German giants.
