Following the disappointment at the end of the season, Sunderland are set for a summer of rebuilding following the issue of their retained list on Tuesday. If recent reports are to be believed, four players have already been identified as possible early summer transfers to Sunderland.

Four Players Linked With Summer Transfers to Sunderland

Ross McCrorie Linked With £1 million Switch

Sean Wallace of the Evening Standard has reported that the Black Cats are considering a £1 million move for Aberdeen’s Ross McCorie. The Scotland U21 international can play as a defensive midfielder or at centre-back.

McCorie only signed for the Dons last summer on a season-long loan from Rangers with a view to a permanent deal happening this summer. Aberdeen accelerated the deal and the player signed permanently during the January transfer window in a deal worth £350,000.

Midfielder Could be Set for Lee Johnson Reunion

Cambridge United midfielder Paul Digby could be set to be reunited with former manager Lee Johnson according to reports. The Sunderland Echo and Football Insider have reported that Lee Johnson could make a move for the defensive midfielder, who he worked with previously at Barnsley. Digby was a key player for United as they won promotion from League Two this season- playing 41 games in all competitions.

Sunderland, should they wish to sign Digby, could face tough opposition. The reports also suggest that the midfielder, who is out of contract this summer, is also being tracked by Sunderland’s League One rivals Charlton Athletic and Oxford United.

Sunderland Among Trio Chasing Right-Back

Former Chelsea trainee Todd Kane who currently plays for QPR is being chased by Sunderland and two other League One clubs. The report by London Football News claims that the 27-year-old is set to leave Loftus Road this summer in search of first-team football. Kane joined Rangers two years ago and has made 60 appearances; however, he has fallen out of favour with manager Mark Warburton this season.

Prior to leaving Chelsea for QPR, Kane had many loan spells away from Stamford Bridge, including several in the Championship. He also has League One experience and also spent time in Holland. Charlton and Portsmouth are also believed to be interested in the defenders’ services.

Ipswich Town Winger Linked as Summer Transfers to Sunderland Rumours Hot Up

The Sunderland Echo are reporting that Ipswich winger Gwion Edwards is on Lee Johnson’s radar. However, according to the East Anglian Times, Edwards has already held talks with fellow League One club MK Dons. The former Peterborough United winger has spent the last three years at Portman Road and is out of contract this summer. Ipswich are keen for him to stay with contract talks ongoing.

Edwards has scored 14 goals in 109 appearances for the Tractor Boys since his £700,000 switch in the summer of 2018.
