Crystal Palace have suffered an injury blow as the season draws to a close. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, midfielder Eberechi Eze has suffered an achilles injury in training.

The injury follows what has been a successful first season for the England U21 international at Selhurst Park.

How Long Will He be Out for?

There is currently no timeframe on the injury, although the worst case scenario could see Eze miss between six to eight months of action.

The injury could not have come at a worse time for Palace. The 22-year-old has been one of the shining lights on what has been an unspectacular season for the Eagles, and a new manager would have seen him as a player to build a team around.

Palace confirmed the news of Roy Hodgson’s departure on Tuesday, May 18 and it means that they are currently heading into the 2021/22 season without a manager and one of the most attacking players.

Eze joined the South London side from QPR for a fee in the region of £20 million. He has enjoyed a successful first season in the Premier League, scoring four goals and registering six assists.

Who Will Replace Eze in the Short-Term?

Palace may have to look to replace Eze in the transfer market this summer, but their immediate concern will be who replaces him for the final two fixtures this season.

The best option for Palace currently to fill the void is Jeffrey Schlupp. The Ghanian has had injury concerns of his own this season, but featured in their last game against Aston Villa and should be fit for the visit of Arsenal.

Alternatively, should Palace look to continue with a 4-3-3 shape, then they look to Luka Milivojevic as his replacement.

The short-term issues are easily solvable for Roy Hodgson and Crystal Palace. However, it is the long-term problems that are causing huge concerns.
