20 Players Signed Under Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace

Roy Hodgson

Crystal Palace have announced that manager Roy Hodgson will depart the club at the end of the season. The former England boss took over at Palace after they sacked Frank De Boer just four games into the 2017/18 season. Despite losing his first three in charge, thus meaning Palace were left with zero points after seven games, he managed to guide them to survival.

Big Additions on Little Resources

Since then, Hodgson has managed to maintain a steady ship at the South London club, largely keeping them well away from any looming relegation battles. All that has been done with pretty limited resources, too. Prior to the acquisition of Eberechi Eze last summer, Palace’s record signing under Hodgson had been midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate from West Ham United for just under £10 million. A lot of money, yes – but compared to some of the other riches seen in the Premier League, it pales in comparison.

That’s not to say, though, that Palace have not fared well in the transfer market during the Hodgson era. Some exciting players have come through the doors at Selhurst Park, whether they have already been and gone or if Palace was the next big step for them after arriving from further down the pyramid.

Here, we take a look back through the 20 players signed at Crystal Palace under Roy Hodgson.

Clearly, there have been some additions that Crystal Palace fans would rather forget about. But, some of the players signed during Hodgson’s time at the club have really helped to establish the Eagles in the Premier League.

Kouyate and McCarthy, for example, have been staples of the Palace midfield for a number of years now. Meanwhile, exciting youngsters like Eze and Ferguson give a glimpse of what the future could look like at Selhurst Park if Palace’s spending continues in the same vein.

A man important to all of these players, Roy Hodgson will certainly be a big miss at Crystal Palace, regardless of whether the time is right to move on.
