Mario Lemina

Mario Lemina is drawing attention from West Ham United and Newcastle United who are both keen on signing the player this summer, according to Ed Aarons and The Guardian.

Southampton’s Mario Lemina Wanted By Both Newcastle United and West Ham United

Solid Season for Mario Lemina Attracting Interest From Premier League Rivals

The 27-year-old has featured 25 times for Fulham this season, having joined the club on a loan deal. He’s been impressive away from Southampton and has found himself in the top percentile of midfielders in the ‘big five’ leagues with an average of 2.24 per 90 minutes.

It’s led to attention from elsewhere and although his loan club and parent club would no doubt like to keep hold of him after the campaign he has had, there are other suitors now considering deals for the player.

Lemina has already played throughout Europe in his career, turning out in Italy, France, England and Turkey. He’s got bags of experience under his belt now and has shown he can be a solid midfielder in the Premier League, he could now get the chance to continue playing there for the foreseeable.

Out of Favour With Saints

He’d fallen out of favour at Southampton, hence the loan moves away from the club, but despite his decent showings for Fulham, it appears he is still not going to be a part of the Saint’s plans. It’s no worry for the player though, who can now take his pick of teams who will happily keep him playing in the top tier.

He could be available for a bargain price too. At just £7 million, he comes for a fee that won’t be breaking the bank for any potential buyer.

COVID-19 Affected Transfer Market

In a COVID affected market, spending will likely be a lot lighter this summer unless a few of the biggest clubs start splashing the cash. If this is the case, then Lemina will prove a decent acquisition for any number of teams due to the value of money. He wouldn’t cost a substantial amount and would provide a solid option in the centre of the field.

If he can keep up this level of form, then he’ll certainly remain one to keep an eye on. Lemina has had one of his best seasons in recent memory and it could largely be down to the more regular game time. By playing 25 times so far for Fulham this campaign, it is the most he has featured in a single league campaign since 2017/18 when he was 23. He’s now four years older and is arguably having one of his better campaigns.

Talent On Show At Juventus

The player looked destined for big things when he played a bit-part for Juventus as they won the Serie A title in back-to-back seasons before his move to England. Although he wasn’t a mainstay in the team, the talent was there to see and that’s what earned him his move to the Premier League.

Since then, he has remained a relatively bit-part player and hasn’t reached the heights he perhaps wanted to or many expected him to hit but now he’s getting regular action, he finally looks like the type of player that could stay in the Premier League for more seasons to come.
