Quick Tips

With just five gameweeks to go, one needs to make some bold calls now and try for a higher-placed finish. Teams that have nothing to play for might still make things competitive but it is better to target those that are fighting for something. The top-four race is still fascinating and some interest remains in the relegation fight. Also, keep in mind the heavy rotation that is likely from teams that are involved in the European competitions.

Goalkeepers

Everton’s terrible home record will encourage Emiliano Martínez‘s FPL owners. The Argentine has failed to keep a clean sheet in the last six matches though.

Edouard Mendy has a great chance to keep a clean sheet this week. However, will Thomas Tuchel start Kepa Arrizabalaga again?

Robert Sánchez and Illan Meslier could both keep a clean sheet this week. Sam Johnstone is also a decent pick.

Defenders

Brighton & Hove Albion need to win to secure their Premier League survival. They missed a great chance to do so last week so they should be determined to produce a good performance this week. Leeds United struggled against the Seagulls earlier in the season. This could be a very interesting game indeed. Lewis Dunk and Stuart Dallas could both get clean sheet points.

Marcos Alonso is likely to start this week and has a good clean sheet opportunity against relegation-threatened Fulham. The Cottagers need all three points, which might provide space for Alonso to run into. We know how much he loves to go forward and this could be a brilliant opportunity for him to get some attacking points. One has to assume Ben Chilwell will be rested this week to keep him fresh for the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.

With 20 points from the last two matches, Timothy Castagne is looking back to his best. Leicester City should win at Southampton this Friday and Castagne could score well again.

Midfielders

West Bromwich Albion are currently nine points from safety. They just have to win the Black Country derby this week to keep their survival hopes alive. Matheus Pereira scored a massive 15 points against Wolves earlier in the season and is playing quite well. He has to produce a stellar performance for the Baggies this week. Perreira is in good form as he almost led West Brom to a crucial win last week only to see Villa snatch a draw right at the end.

Son Heung-min and Gareth Bale are both worthwhile options to consider against Sheffield United. Bale should start at home to a weaker opposition and he has the potential to go big. Son should do well also.

Raheem Sterling did not see a minute of action on Wednesday night in the Champions League. One has to assume he will start this weekend. Sterling is not exactly in great form though. Ferran Torres is another one if one wants to take a punt on a Manchester City player.

If he starts, Kai Havertz could do very well this week. Fulham’s desperation for the three points could play into the hands of Chelsea.

Strikers

Kelechi Iheanacho’s red hot form continued last week with a 12 point haul against Crystal Palace. With nine goals in the last seven matches in the Premier League, the Nigerian is one of the best picks of the week. Iheanacho also scored against this week’s opponents Southampton in the FA Cup. Besides, the Saints have conceded four goals in their last two home games. Leicester City could take a massive step towards confirming a spot in next season’s Champions League with a victory in this game. On current form, they should make it and Iheanacho’s goals have helped.
His strike partner Jamie Vardy has only scored once in the last nine matches in the Premier League. Probably for the first time since the departure of Riyad Mahrez, Leicester City do not seem to rely on him alone to score the goals. However, Vardy must be itching to score some goals himself and not let Iheanacho have all the fun. Vardy looked quite sharp against Crystal Palace and was rather unlucky not to score. He has happy memories of St. Mary’s Stadium as he scored a hat-trick there last season in that famous 9-0 victory for the Foxes. Could Vardy come back into the limelight in this game? Those looking for a differential could consider him.
Harry Kane at home against the bottom club in the league seems like a no-brainer for the captaincy decision. Kane has been spectacular this season and was in great form before his recent injury. However, his rather rapid return from said injury has raised some concerns. He played the whole game against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, which seems promising. Kane will likely start this Sunday. The Blades have already been relegated but they are unlikely to make things easy for Spurs. Regardless, Kane is probably the best bet for the armband this week.

Chris Wood scored a brilliant hat-trick last week to ease Burnley’s relegation worries. The Clarets will want to get another three points to solidify their position. They have a great recent record against West Ham United who they have beaten the last couple of times the Hammers visited Turf Moor. Wood scored in both of those matches. So, one can consider the New Zealand striker, who is in fantastic form.

Quite a few other strikers could be considered as well but none of them are in great form. Two English strikers Ollie Watkins and Dominic Calvert-Lewin face-off at Goodison Park with both strikers looking to impress Gareth Southgate. Patrick Bamford has not scored for a while and has a tough trip to Brighton this week. Callum Wilson could get a goal against Arsenal, who might rest a few players after their Thursday night Europa League match.
