Neymar Contract at Paris Saint-Germain Close to Being Extended

Neymar

Brazilian forward Neymar is reportedly close to signing a new contract with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the 29-year-old will receive a significant financial bonus from the French club if he helps them win a maiden Champions League trophy. The new contract will see Neymar commit to the club until June 2026. Neymar’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain is currently set to expire in June 2022.

Neymar Contract at PSG to Be Extended

Neymar Contract Could Result in European Success at PSG

Neymar has endured many ups and downs since signing for Les Parisiens in a world-record transfer from Barcelona in August 2017. On the one hand, the mercurial forward has helped the club continue its dominance of French football, winning three consecutive Ligue 1 titles as well as four domestic cups in his time with the club so far.

The Brazilian has also built up a sensational record in terms of statistics, with 83 goals and 47 assists in 104 games for PSG. His efficiency in front of goal, combined with his renowned skill and flair, is a potent combination that has, at times, made French football look too easy for a man of his talent.

On the flip side, however, is a frustrating injury record that has caused Neymar to miss a number of important matches since signing for the club. This season alone, the player has been ruled out with separate adductor and ankle problems- limiting him to only 19 appearances in all competitions.

Additionally, Neymar has yet to add the Champions League to his haul of trophies won as a PSG player so far. The club remains open of its desire to add Europe’s top prize to its burgeoning collection but fell at the last hurdle in 2019/20 as Bayern Munich triumphed in a tight final in Lisbon.

Kylian Mbappé No Closer to Agreeing PSG Extension

PSG supporters will hope to see France striker Kylian Mbappé join Neymar in committing his long-term future to the club. However, unlike his strike partner, the 22-year-old seems no closer to signing a new deal following months of protracted negotiations.

Mbappé recently became the youngest player ever to score 100 Ligue 1 goals, helping PSG regain top spot in the division with a victory over title-chasing Lyon. Neymar’s contract extension at PSG, should it happen, will come as good news around the French capital. Mauricio Pochettino will hope the extension results in European success. From Neymar’s point of view, the contract should result in his future remaining unquestioned.
