Angél Di Maria: Argentine Signs One-Year Extension With Paris Saint-Germain

Experienced Figure

Di Maria is the second oldest player in the PSG squad, with goalkeeper Keylor Navas the only player older than him.

The Argentine’s experience will prove useful as the squad enters a potential transition phase. Several of the players in Maurico Pochettino’s squad are in their prime years, meaning that a gradual overhaul could be on the horizon.

The 33-year-old is still an important part of the squad at the Parc des Princes. He has featured 27 times so far this season, scoring five goals and registering 10 assists. His last goal came in a 3-0 win over Nimes on February 3.

Di Maria has also maintained his place in the starting line-up this season, starting 22 games this season.

Keeping the Argentinian winger could also help lure his national team team-mate Lionel Messi to the French capital. According to Talksport, the Barcelona icon has been linked with a move to PSG. However, agreeing a move is likely to be tough.

Career so Far With PSG

Di Maria has so far enjoyed a successful six years with PSG. He has won 16 trophies during his time with the club, including four Ligue 1 titles.

During that time he has scored 86 goals in 246 appearances. The 33-year-old’s best spell came during the 2017/18 season, where he scored 22 goals and laid on 13 for his team-mates.

The Argentine’s consistency and ability to maintain the level of performance he has at the top level of the European game should be admired. However, he is arguably faced with one of his toughest challenges of his PSG career, with the club currently in a battle for the Ligue 1 title.
