Nikola Milenkovic Emerges as Top Transfer Target for Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have made Fiorentina centre back Nikola Milenkovic their number one transfer target according to Sky Germany’s Marc Behrenbeck.

The 23-year-old centre back is top of Dortmund’s list as they look to enhance their defensive options. With several current Dortmund defenders facing uncertain futures, it appears the club are looking to freshen up their backline in the summer transfer window.

According to Behrenbeck, Milenkovic is a top target and contact has already been made with Fiorentina.

Fiorentina Will Command a Significant Fee

Its set to be a busy summer for Borussia Dortmund with Marco Rose arriving as manager and the squad set for significant changes. With the defence proving to be a problem, it’s unsurprising Dortmund are chasing new defenders.

Lukasz Piszczek’s future is unclear with his contract expiring at the end of the season. Dan-Axel Zagadou has showcased his abilities during his time in Germany but injuries have plagued his career. There are also question marks over the future for Switzerland international Manuel Akanji. While he has been a regular, his future is unclear and Dortmund could sell if the right offer comes in.

Fiorentina centre back Milenkovic appears to be the man Dortmund want. He is into the final 18 months of his contract but Fiorentina will still command a significant fee. He has been one of their better performers in what has been a disappointing season for the Viola.

Milenkovic is a no-nonsense centre back who reads the game well. He is excellent in the air and offers a strong presence at the back. While he isn’t blessed with pace, he is an excellent tackler of the ball and is seen as one of the best defenders in Serie A.

A move to the Bundesliga would certainly appeal to the defender. An opportunity to play regular European football and compete for the league title presents itself. He would certainly be an excellent signing for Dortmund if the German side can reach an agreement with Fiorentina.
