Digne a Key Player for Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton

Since his arrival from Barcelona in the summer of 2018, Digne has gone on to make 97 appearances for Everton. It is the most appearances he has made for anyone club, where he has also scored five times and provided an impressive 19 assists.

The left-back has been a key figure at Everton, with only suspension and injuries keeping the 27-year-old out of the matchday squad.

Capped 35 times by France, Digne also brings a wealth of experience to Ancelotti’s squad, which includes time playing at some of Europe’s top club, including Paris Saint-Germain and Roma.

Contract Talks

Speaking about the new deal, via the club’s official website, Digne said: “The fans made me feel at home from the beginning, they showed me big love and created a song for me.

“It is something I really appreciate and it is very important for me to keep the stability.

“We have a big project with the club and can reach something very good at the end of this season and for the next few years.

“I want to play in Europe and Everton is the best place to do that.”

Digne signed a five-year deal upon his arrival in 2018 but Ancelotti has decided to reward him for his performances. He has excelled under the Italian, adding ten assists from just 39 Everton appearances.

Discussions have been ongoing since before Christmas but the deal is imminent. It comes at a good time, too, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that there was “interest from Spanish clubs.”
