Chelsea Express Interest in Jonas Hofmann

Chelsea are reportedly interested in Borussia Monchengladbach winger Jonas Hofmann, according to Bild. The 28-year-old has played under new Blues boss Thomas Tuchel when the pair were at Borussia Dortmund five years ago.

Jonas Hofmann Emerges as Latest Chelsea Transfer Target

Hofmann Has Had a Productive Season So Far

It seems that a number of players could be on their way from Monchengladbach at the end of the season after it was recently confirmed that coach Marco Rose would be leaving for Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, with Hofmann particularly catching the eye of a potential suitor.

The German international earned his first cap in October of last year and, domestically speaking, he has scored six and assisted ten goals in 21 games this season, with only the Bayern Munich trio of Thomas Müller, Joshua Kimmich and Kingsley Coman accumulating more assists.

Hofmann Could Be Tempted to Pack His Bags for Chelsea

Hofmann is contracted until 2023 and is expected to be worth around the £14 million mark – a seemingly nominal fee for a Chelsea side who spent over £200 million last summer.

Gladbach also find themselves in seventh place in the Bundesliga table and missing out on European football this year would certainly turn the 28-year-old’s head, especially when one of Europe’s elite are reportedly interested.

The report also suggested that Tuchel has made contact with the player’s agent, with the help of a club official, and the winger is believed to be open to a new challenge.

If Chelsea do manage to secure the wideman’s services, it will be second time lucky for a Premier League side. Tottenham Hotspur tried to land Hofmann’s signature back in 2019, but instead, he extended his contract with the German side.

The Blues already have a plethora of quality attacking options within the squad, suggesting Tuchel may be looking to get rid of a player or two come the summer.
