Southampton Out of the Race for Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Southampton will not be pursuing their interest in Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles this window according to Adam Blackmore.

Southampton Not Interested in Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Linked With the Player Throughout the Transfer Window

Saints were eager to bring the 23-year old to the club this transfer window and have been linked with him throughout the month.

However, it now appears that any potential deal for the player is off, with the club reportedly unhappy with the way that negotiations are progressing for the Englishman. It means that Southampton are now having to look elsewhere for reinforcements.

Maitland-Niles is a versatile player and has spent the entirety of his career with Arsenal. He has managed 40 Premier League starts during his time with the Gunners so far and has also played for the club’s reserve side regularly.

The versatile player also spent time on loan at Ipswich Town where he turned out 30 times for the Tractor Boys. He managed three goal contributions in the league and impressed enough to then get more game time at parent club Arsenal.

Lack of First-Team Football at Arsenal

However, it is a different story this season. Making just five starts for the Gunners in the league, he has found first-team action hard to come by. With less opportunity for playing time at Arsenal, it looked like he would try and secure a move away from the club this month.

Southampton No Longer Want Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Southampton have been the most prominent interested party in the player and it seemed like a move for Maitland-Niles would be done.

However, it’ll be a blow to the player and the Saints to hear that negotiations have failed and that the player will now not be moving to the club before the deadline. Instead, Southampton are set to look elsewhere for the reinforcements that they want before the transfer window comes to a close tonight.

Now though, Maitland-Niles has been linked with a switch to West Bromwich Albion.
