Luton Town defender Gabriel Osho has joined Rochdale on loan for the remainder of the season.

Osho becomes Rochdale’s first January signing as they look to shore up one of League One’s leakiest defences.

Osho arrives having only joined Luton in November after his exit from Reading.

Osho Arrives Hoping for First Team Football

The defender spent over a decade in the Reading academy featuring for the club at several youth levels. However, he left Reading in November in search of regular first-team football. Osho managed just seven league appearances for the Royals.

Luton eventually picked him up and he was immediately loaned out to Yeovil Town. He played four times for the Glovers before being recalled by Luton. A move to Rochdale offers regular EFL football- something Osho hasn’t had on a consistent basis.

His loan moves in his career have all been to sides in the National League. Maidenhead United, Aldershot Town and Yeovil. He did join Bristol Rovers during the 2018/19 season but didn’t make a single appearance for them in League One.

Osho now gets an opportunity to enhance his football education and get some regular games under his belt. He joins a Rochdale side look to maintain their League One status. Dale are in a clustered pack of teams sat on 22 points, a single point clear of the relegation zone.

Osho arrives hoping to shore up a Rochdale defence which has conceded 11 goals in their last four league games. Only Burton Albion and Swindon Town have conceded more than Brian Barry-Murphy’s side this season. They have recently been scoring three to four goals a game just to get a result.

Their new signing is in line for his Rochdale debut against Gillingham this weekend. A good chance for him to make an impression and Rochdale to pick up points against Steve Evans’ inconsistent Gills.
