The defender was into the final six months of his contract and has decided to reunite with former Dons manager Paul Tisdale.

Williams becomes Rovers’ second signing of this transfer window.

Williams Has Played Just Eight League Games This Season

The defender is a product of the MK Dons academy. Williams has been a fixture in the Dons side for several seasons. However, he has featured just eight times in League One this season. With his contract up at the end of the season, a January move wasn’t always out of the question.

Williams will reunite with Bristol Rovers manager Paul Tisdale. He was part of Tisdale’s promotion-winning side of 2018/19. He moves to the South West hoping to get more games under his belt and help Rovers push up the League One table.

Williams joins a Bristol Rovers side hovering precariously above the relegation zone. Rovers are just a point clear with Tisdale still implementing his ideas and style of play on his new side.

The defender could make his Rovers debut this weekend when Bristol Rovers take on Oxford United.

Paul Tisdale Delighted With Newest Recruit

Speaking to the Bristol Rovers website about his new signing, manager Paul Tisdale said: “We are delighted to bring George to the football club.

“He’s a player that I know very well and understands how I like to operate. His experience and understanding of this level will be a bonus for us, with a number of promotions on his CV.

“His high level of professionalism and his attitude and application, both on and off the pitch, match the standards of what we expect at Bristol Rovers and we look forward to welcoming George into the group over the busy schedule ahead of us.”
