What Was Said?

Halford told the club website about his new deal: “I’m delighted to be staying and to know where I’m going to be playing my football for the next four months.

“Hopefully I’ll get many more games under my belt and help the team move up the table.

“I’m pleased with how it’s gone so far. I’ve wanted to play more minutes but obviously being out the length of time that I have been, the games that I’ve had I’ve done OK in. It’s still [about] building fitness.

“Barrow was my first start in over two years so I’m probably ahead of schedule in terms of starting games. In terms of performances, I know there is still a lot more to come from me.

“I was always confident in the ability that I had, it was just whether or not I was able to translate that inside a month to be able to warrant being given another contract.

“I’m really pleased and thankful to the manager and coaching staff for getting me up to speed and putting the faith into me. Hopefully, I can repay that over the next four or five months.”

Time at Southend

Since joining Southend in December, Halford has gone on to make five appearances for the club.

He scored on his debut in the 3-1 win against fellow strugglers Grimsby Town, and then made substitute appearances against Mansfield Town, Colchester United and Leyton Orient.

Halford’s first start came in the 1-0 win against Barrow, but he was sent off for a second bookable offence shortly into the second half.
