Midfielder Olly Lee has returned to Gillingham on loan for the rest of the season.

Lee returns to Gillingham from Scottish Championship side Hearts and is the Gills’ third signing in this transfer window.

The experienced midfielder is back for a third spell with the club and a second time working with manager Steve Evans.

Olly Lee Completes Loan Move to Gillingham

Lee Returning to the Gills for Third Time

The midfielder is vastly experienced at League One level and certainly enhances the Gills’ options. Lee is the third midfielder to join Gillingham this month after Southampton duo Tyreke Johnson and Callum Slattery.

A product of the West Ham United academy, Lee is no stranger to Gillingham as he arrives for a third spell with the club. His first spell was seven-game loan spell in 2012. Since that first loan spell, Lee has played for several clubs including Birmingham City and Luton Town.

His second spell with the Gills came last season when Steve Evans brought him on loan in August 2019. The deal was initially short-term before it was extended. He went on to make 33 appearances before he returned to Scotland after the season was curtailed.

Lee could be involved in tomorrow’s game against Accrington Stanley. The Gills head into that game just five points clear of the League One relegation zone.

Steve Evans Delighted With Newest Recruit

Speaking to the Gillingham website about Lee’s return, manager Steve Evans said: “I am delighted to bring back a player who was outstanding for us last season.

“Olly is a top-class player, a brilliant professional and brings some class to our attacking play.

“The lad had numerous options in League 1 but when I rang him he made it clear if we could agree loan terms with Hearts, we would be his first choice.”
