Aston Villa have seen their game against Everton postponed due to the continued outbreak of COVID-19 at the club’s training ground.

The game was originally meant to take place on Sunday, but will now have to be rescheduled for later in the season.

Aston Villa Faced With Yet Another Postponement as Everton Visit Cancelled

‘Under Control’

It is the third postponement that Villa have suffered due to an outbreak of Coronavirus, and the second since their own outbreak last week.

Their game against Newcastle United at the beginning of December was postponed due to several members of the Magpies’ squad contracting the virus. However, this game is now set to take place on Saturday 23 January, the club have confirmed.

Last week, though, saw Villa suffer an outbreak of their own. Their training ground was shut down and the entirety of their first-team squad was forced into self-isolation. As a result, they had to field a youthful side in their FA Cup fixture against Liverpool.

Due to the current self-isolation guidance, it also meant that their game against Tottenham Hotspur, which was meant to take place on Wednesday, was also postponed. Now though, as a result of Covid-19, they have seen yet another fixture rescheduled.

A statement on the official Aston Villa website said: “Aston Villa can confirm that Sunday’s scheduled Premier League fixture with Everton has been postponed.

“The Club would like to express its immense gratitude to the medical experts who have helped us to get a significant Covid-19 outbreak under control, as well as the Premier League board and our fellow clubs for their understanding during this period.

“We expect that members of the first team squad and staff who are healthy and safe to return to training will do so on Sunday when the isolation protocols will have been observed.

“The Club continues to wish all those affected by the virus a speedy recovery.
