Real Madrid to Loan Luka Jovic Back to Eintracht Frankfurt

Real Madrid have reportedly agreed to send Serbian international Luka Jovic back to former club Eintracht Frankfurt on loan until the end of the season.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Jovic had been offered to Manchester United a number of months ago, but that the Red Devils passed up on the opportunity to sign the 23-year-old.

The deal marks a return to German football for Jovic, who played for Frankfurt for two years between 2017 and 2019. The centre-forward was a hit in the Bundesliga, scoring 27 goals in 48 appearances in the 2018/19 season.

In October 2018, Jovic became the youngest player ever to score five goals in the same game in the German top flight, as Frankfurt thrashed Fortuna Düsseldorf 7-1.

Overall, Jovic scored 36 goals in 75 matches throughout his previous spell in the Bundesliga. The player is said to be excited at the prospect of his return and sees the move as an opportunity to rekindle a promising career.

Jovic Will be Expected Back in Madrid After His Upcoming Loan Move

Jovic leaving Madrid after a year-and-a-half does not signal the end of his time in the Spanish capital. The former Benfica man is under contract at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2025 and will be expected to challenge for a place in the side at the start of next season.

Doing so, however, will require Jovic to improve on his current record. A meagre return of two goals in 32 appearances for the Spanish giants has seen the striker slip to third in the club’s pecking order, behind Karim Benzema and Mariano Diaz.

Jovic’s 2020/21 season so far has been disrupted by a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, as well as a tear to his abductor muscle. He last featured under Zinedine Zidane as a substitute against Valencia on November 8 of last year.
