Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton says his plan is to add more players in the current transfer window. But the Reds boss warned fans against their hopes set too high on the business being done quickly.

‘We Really Want to Do Something in January’

Hughton hopes to make further movements in the January transfer window but says supporters should not plan for any movements as soon as this week.

The comments come after a positive 1-0 win over Cardiff City in the FA Cup. Lyle Taylor‘s first-half volley, after an excellent driving run from Gaetan Bong, ensured Forest’s progression to the fourth round.

Speaking afterwards to BBC Radio Nottingham, Hughton said he was unsure what business could be completed this week.

He said: “I don’t know. If you want to push me I’d say no, but you just don’t know. We really want to do something in January. That’s as regards bringing in and also lightening the squad a little bit.

“It’s hard work doing it and making sure whatever we do strengthens our squad. Otherwise, there is no point doing it.”

Forest have already had one player depart – with Nicholas Ioannou joining Aris Thessaloniki until the end of the season – and another extending their stay.

While no official confirmation regarding Anthony Knockaert has been made, it is widely reported that the midfielder’s loan will be extended for the rest of the campaign.

It remains likely that Kamil Grosicki is a name on Forest’s list of targets this month, but Hughton said his transfer window plan continues to target early business.

He said: “The ideal situation is to get whatever business we want to do in early. That doesn’t always happen but with any work the earlier you can get it done [the better].

“We’ll still be playing. It’s not like you have three or four weeks in January without games. Whatever you can do early is a real plus.”
