Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton says the Reds are “actively” looking into a loan move away for defender Nicholas Ioannou.

‘Good Chance’ Nottingham Forest Defender Will Depart

The Cypriot defender was rumoured to be making a loan move to Greek side Aris Thessaloniki.

His last appearance for the Reds was a 1-1 draw against Luton Town in which he was sent off.

Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live ahead of Forest’s FA Cup tie with Cardiff City, Hughton said: “It’s never for me to speak about individual clubs, but what I can say is we have spoken to Ioannou about the possibility of going out – going out on loan and playing games.

“That is something we are actively trying to do, but it’s not my responsibility to name clubs.

“It’s fair to say there is a good chance he’ll be going out.”

Yuri Riberio has since adopted the left-back position as his own, relegating Ioannou to the substitutes’ bench on six occasions.

Departures Key to Forest Transfer Activity

Departures will be the main focus for Nottingham Forest this month, with Hughton keen to reduce the squad from its already large size.

The Reds had 14 signings arrive at the City Ground this summer; however, only one of those arrived under Hughton.

Nicholas Ioannou seemed to always be on the list of players facing a possible exit, with playing time proving limited, but a loan away looks to be the best bet.

Along with Ioannou facing a move away from the Midlands is forgotten defender Tendayi Darikwa, along with Michael Hefele and Zach Clough.

Forest may look to move Darikwa on for a fee given he will be out of contract in the summer.

Hefele and Clough, meanwhile, have been likely departures for the last few transfer windows.
