Brighton & Hove Albion Reject Millwall’s Jayson Molumby Bid

Brighton & Hove Albion have turned down a big offer for midfielder Jayson Molumby from Championship side Millwall, reports Richard Cawley of South London Press. The Republic of Ireland international spent the 2019/20 season on loan with the Lions but has entered the first-team picture at Brighton, and the Seagulls are not willing to sell.

Brighton Reject Millwall Bid for Jayson Molumby

Record Bid Turned Down

Cawley reports that had the bid from Millwall been accepted then it would have broken their transfer record. Molumby was one of the top performers for the side last season, helping them finish eighth – just two points shy of a play-off spot.

With the introduction of nine-man substitute benches in the Premier League, Molumby has been on the teamsheet for Brighton more often recently – featuring on the bench in three of their last four matches. He even made a late appearance in November’s match against Aston Villa.

However, he has not yet managed to force himself any further into Graham Potter’s plans, therefore it is thought that Brighton would consider another loan spell for the 21-year-old.

Millwall were confident of being able to secure a loan spell for Molumby back in the summer, but the move never worked out and he remained with Brighton.

They could go back in for him in January if the Seagulls are willing to sanction another loan as it would still cover the midfield area which they are trying to boost.

It would then buy them time to either weigh up another permanent move for the Irishman this summer or scout other options to fill the void in the middle.

Millwall have struggled to replicate their form of last season and currently sit 17th in the table with just one win from their last five matches.
