Young Liverpool winger Liam Millar has officially joined Charlton Athletic on loan for the rest of the season. The 21-year-old becomes the first departure out of Anfield this month, as he looks to gain crucial first-team minutes in his development.

Chance for Millar to Realise Potential

As proven by 17-year-old Harvey Elliott this season, a loan move can propel a young player towards their forever-increasing potential. The on-loan winger has impressed many in the Championship at Blackburn Rovers, scoring four goals and assisting a further seven so far this season.

And Liam Millar will be desperate to have a similar impact for Charlton in League One having secured the loan move. We have seen this season more than ever just how important Liverpool’s academy can be.

Millar may not have received his chance at Anfield yet, but a loan move to Valley Park will do his chances of receiving future opportunities no harm. Now, when given first-team minutes, the on-loan Liverpool man must impress.

On Millar’s arrival, manager Lee Bowyer said: “He’s an exciting player, he wants to travel with the ball and he wants to go past people, that is what we need. It has been obvious, since we lost Alfie [Doughty] to injury, that we’ve lacked that pace to hit teams on the break and Liam is going to bring that to us as an option.”

Sorba Thomas Also Linked

The incoming Millar could be one of several arrivals at Valley Park this month with the club also linked with a move for Boreham Wood’s Sorba Thomas.

The former West Ham United youngster – placed on the transfer list by Boreham Wood – has attracted the interest of Charlton this month.

Addicks manager Lee Bowyer said when asked about Thomas: “We like him as a player but from what I understand we’re not the only club that likes him, which doesn’t surprise me – because he is a good, young player.

“He plays for his team and we have to respect that, but I think I can respectfully say that I like him as a player- I like a lot of players! He is a young lad who has got some talent.”
