REPORT: AFC Bournemouth and Josh King Keen to Part Ways During January Transfer Window

AFC Bournemouth striker Josh King looks set to leave the club during the January transfer window, as reported by The Athletic.

Both parties are looking for a deal in which will end the Norway internationals five year stay on the south coast.

Previously Rejected Bids

It isn’t like offers for King have been shortcoming. The Championship club rejected bids from West Ham United and Torino in the summer, along with his former club Manchester United during the last January window, after they felt that none of the bids matched their valuation of the 28-year-old.

The club are still looking to offload the forward but are willing to wait for the right price, despite being out of contract in the summer.

Following their relegation from the Premier League, the club have held out for their valuations for Nathan Ake, Aaron Ramsdale and Callum Wilson before their departures in the summer.

Comments From King

With the club looking for movement, the striker is also looking to feature elsewhere and has made his intentions clear on numerous occasions.

While away on international duty with Norway in October, King said: “If it had been up to me, I would have already signed for a club and started the season, played four games and been in top form. If you’d asked me two months ago if I thought I’d be in Bournemouth after what I’ve been promised, I’d have answered 110 per cent ‘no’.”

With six months remaining on his current deal, King is in a similar position as that of Ryan Fraser last season. The Scot was out of favour, much like King this season, but was willing to wait until his contract expired before departing the club, despite not playing.

King has made just six appearances in the league this season. That appearance came against Wycombe Wanderers, eight games after his previous outing for the Cherries.

The 28-year-old has been left out of 13 of 20 matchday squads. King has struggled with fitness, injuries and has tested positive for coronavirus this season, halting any possible progress at the club.

With the current situation, he may feel reluctant to fight for his place in the squad, having been an integral part of the Cherries’ success while in the Premier League.
