The lack of opportunities is finally getting Olivier Giroud to think about his future at Chelsea. According to Simon Johnson of  The Athletic, Giroud is looking to move away from Chelsea this January. The French international has only made one start so far this season, against Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup.

Giroud Looking for Chelsea Exit in January

Lack of Chelsea Opportunities Damaging Giroud’s Euro 2021 Chance

Olivier Giroud has been struggling for starts at Chelsea this season following the arrival of Timo Werner. The striker had a strong finish to the last season, scoring eight goals and helping Chelsea secure Champions League football. But, that has not convinced Frank Lampard to start the French striker.

The striker was reportedly looking for an exit during the last two transfer windows. But, this time it looks more likely to happen with Chelsea possessing depth in the position. Giroud has managed just one start in all competition for Chelsea this season with Frank Lampard opting to start Tammy Abraham, and Timo Werner.

The lack of appearances have already prompted France coach Didier Deschamps to voice his concern of the situation before France’s UEFA Nations League match against Sweden. The presence of several in-form attacking talents has also put the Chelsea striker’s position in the French national team in doubt.

Didier Deschamps Voices Concern Over Giroud’s Lack of Playing Time

The lack of appearance has already prompted France coach Didier Deschamps to voice his concern of the situation. Talking to the media ahead of France’s UEFA Nations League match against Sweden, Deschamps said:

“Olivier knows it – the situation he’s in today cannot drag on forever. Before March he will have to find another situation than this one. I never give advice, I give an opinion. At the end of the day, it’s the player’s decision. He has had situations that have sometimes been complicated to deal with.

Today, it is not good for him. Will it stay the same or will it improve? It’s up to him. He knows what I think, even if I don’t forget everything he has done and everything he would still be able to do
