REPORT: Leicester City Open Contract Talks With Jonny Evans

Leicester City have opened contract talks with defender Jonny Evans, reports The Athletic.

Leicester Keen on Extending Jonny Evans Deal

Evans a Constant in Leicester Defence

Evans’ contract at the club runs until next summer and reporter Rob Tanner claims talks between the player’s representatives and the Foxes to extend his stay are underway.

Both the 32-year-old and the club are confident that a deal can be reached which will be a huge boost to Leicester’s ambitions of pushing for a Champions League place.

The former Manchester United defender has been ever-present for the Foxes since his move to the King Power Stadium in 2018 from West Bromwich Albion.

Evans, alongside Çağlar Söyüncü, have formed one of the most reliable defensive pairings in the Premier League. He has netted twice from 67 outings for the Foxes.

Praise From Brendan Rogers

Since the injury to Söyüncü, Evans has been praised for his partnership with new signing, Wesley Fofana. Manager Brendan Rogers has expressed his intentions to keep the Northern Irishman at the club.

He said: “He is clearly a player I would love to keep here. He has been absolutely brilliant, not just in the games but in training with setting the standards and the mentality.”

Evans Keen on New Deal

The centre-back expressed his desire to stay at the club too ahead of the Foxes’ Europa League clash with Zorya Luhansk last month.

Evans told Sky Sports: “There’s been nothing formal in terms of contract talks, possibly that’s something my agent and the club will do in the near future, but I have really enjoyed m time here, if that option becomes available I’m sure it’s one I would take.

“If we can come to an agreement I’m sure it won’t be a problem and it will be sorted soon.”
