Two More Qualifiers

England find themselves in the comfortable position of facing their final two UEFA European U21 Championship qualifiers knowing they have already secured their place at the finals. The remaining two games are both to be played at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Molineux Stadium. Andorra are the first opponents on Friday, 13 November, followed by Albania four days later.

Tariq Lamptey Recall

Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey has impressed with some energetic performances this season and has been recalled to the squad. Lamptey made his England U21 debut back in September but was then disappointed to miss out on the October squads with a hamstring injury.

New Faces

With that qualification already secured, Boothroyd has been able to bring in some new faces to see what they can add to his squad. Derby County defender Lee Buchanan has earned a call up along with Jamal Musiala, who is currently at Bayern Munich.

Other players called up are Curtis Jones and Rhys Williams of Liverpool. Injuries have meant that Liverpool have had to make use of youth in the early stages of the Premier League Season.

Expectations

Aidy Boothroyd will be looking to use these final two qualifying games to try and settle on his best team. There will be friendlies before next years tournament but tournament football is the best way to see who can make the grade. Scoring goals has not been an issue for the young Lions who have scored 29 goals already. There is work to be done in defence after some error-strewn performances against Andorra in a 3-3 draw on 7th October and Slovenia back on 11th October 2019.
