‘Hughton Gambled’ and ‘Lacklustre Performance’

Forest had to come from 1-0 behind in order to take a point against Derby County at the City Ground.

Martyn Waghorn‘s excellent freekick just past the half-hour mark opened the scoring before Taylor reacted quickest to prod home Anthony Knockaert‘s corner.

The Fulham loanee produced an inspiring performance, with Forest fans already keen to see Knockaert tied down permanently.

Kamil Jozwiak had the ball in Forest’s net towards the end of the second half, but the Derby forward was denied a winger as Waghorn interfered with play from an offside position.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw, Chris Hughton said his side were fortunate to take a point after a slow first half showing.

He told NottinghamshireLive: “It’s the second game this week we have started poorly. We did that against Rotherham and it was the same again tonight.

“We had to do better in the second half.

“It’s been a tough week. We’ve got a lot of players who have played all of the game.

“In the end, did we deserve more? Probably not on the first half performance, but we finished the game very strongly.”

One major talking point was Hughton’s choice of tactics for the fixture.

The former Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion boss opted for a standard 4-4-2 formation, with Taylor and Lewis Grabban working together up-front.

But the Reds lacked a creative spark and the link with attack proved disjointed.

Hughton introduced loanee Knockaert at half-time, taking off Grabban, and reverted to a 4-2-3-1 formation, and Forest fans are keen for that set-up to remain.
