Inter Milan full-back Achraf Hakimi has tested positive for COVID-19, the club has confirmed.  The Moroccan international joins an increasing list of Nerazzurri players who have tested positive for the virus. Hakimi, who was to face Borussia Monchengladbach in Inter Milan’s Champions League opener, will now be unavailable for the Italian giants.

Hakimi is one of the players to test positive following UEFA’s latest round of COVID test. The club has confirmed that the Moroccan is asymptomatic, but he will now be following the health protocols.

Huge Blow for Inter Milan

Inter Milan have been one of the teams that have suffered very much due to COVID. The Italian giants had seen Ashley Young, Robert Gagliardini, Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni missing after getting infected by the virus. A huge loss to rivals AC Milan at the weekend also did not help the Nerazzurri cross.

Achraf Hakimi has been a big part of the Inter Milan side since his move from Real Madrid. The Moroccan was exceptional during the first two matches, scoring once and making two assists. But, the unavailability of the full-back will now pose a huge problem for Antonio Conte.

Crucial Champions League Opener

Inter Milan have been placed in a tough group with eternal Champions League favourites Real Madrid, Borussia Monchengladbach, and the unpredictable Shakhtar Donetsk. Unlike Inter Milan, Borussia Monchengladbach has had a poor start to their domestic campaign. They are sitting 11th in the Bundesliga after winning just one of their opening four matches.

But, Monchengladbach are no pushovers. Under Marco Rose, the Bundesliga outfit hasveplayed some of their best football in recent seasons. The likes of Alassane Plea, Breel Embolo, Marcus Thuram have all proven themselves for the German side.

A winning start could see the Nerazzuri taking the first step in qualification in what would be a difficult group.
