West Ham manager David Moyes has dismissed claims that transfer target Said Benrahma has failed a medical.

Benrahma To West Ham ‘Ongoing’

How It Unfolded

Earlier today, The Daily Mirror’s Darren Lewis reported that the Brentford midfielder had failed his medical, throwing the reported £30m transfer into jeopardy.

However, The Athletic’s David Ornstein later revealed that the deal was still on the table, tweeting: “Medicals not technically passed/failed – virtually every player has issues, so tests done and results used to help make recruitment decisions.

“Sources close to Benrahma deal say he will be a West Ham player.”

Meanwhile, speaking at his Friday press conference, David Moyes insisted that negotiations were in progress.

“[Benrahma] hasn’t failed his medical and we hope something can be done later today,” he said. “Part of it is ongoing. We’ll find out soon.”

Transfer Questions for West Ham

25-year old Benrahma is one of the most highly rated talents in the Football League and securing his services would be a major catch for Moyes’ side.

The Algeria international was instrumental in Brentford’s bid for promotion last season – scoring 17 goals and providing eight assists – and has the potential to become a forward talisman in the mould of Dimitri Payet at the London Stadium.

However, should the transfer fail to materialise before tonight’s 5pm deadline, it would raise serious questions about West Ham’s Premier League ambitions

The Hammers sold promising youngster Grady Diangana to rivals West Brom to generate money for signings but despite being linked with various names, only three new faces have joined the squad this summer.

Tomas Soucek made the permanent switch from Slavia Prague back in July and was recently joined by defensive reinforcements Vladimir Coufal and Craig Dawson.

However, if West Ham miss out on Benrahma in the same transfer window, Hammers fans will be very disappointed by this summer’s spending.
