EFL Experience

During his time on Merseyside, Kane has had two loan spells in the EFL. He spent the entire 2018/19 season in League One with Doncaster Rovers and was a mainstay in their side. He made 49 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven times.

Last season, he made nine total appearances for Hull City in the Championship. He joined the Tigers at the start of 2020 to try and help them avoid the drop. His two goals, coming in successive games, looked like they might provide that relief. However, Kane went off injured in the second of those goalscoring games, and Hull were not the same team without him, eventually dropping down to League One with a whimper.

League Cup Matches for Liverpool

Kane, who joined the Liverpool youth set-up from Bristol City in 2013, never made a Premier League appearance for the Reds. However, his professional debut for them came in last season’s Carabao Cup when he replaced Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the closing minutes of a win against MK Dons.

Kane also played in the quarter-final of that competition when Liverpool fielded a youth team against Aston Villa as the first-team were away on Club World Cup duty. The Reds went on to lose 5-0, but put in an impressive performance for a side with an average age of 19 years and six months.

Fitting in at Barnsley

There’s no doubt that Kane is a talented player. However, given the quality that Liverpool expect from their youngsters coming through now, his chances at Anfield are going to be limited. Moving away gives him the chance to really start his career with regular first-team matches for the foreseeable future.

Barnsley are still without a permanent manager after head coach Gerhard Struber left to join News York Red Bulls.
