Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams is unlikely to move to Southampton, according to Laurie Whitwell The Athletic. The Saints have been keen to add a full-back to their squad to provide competition for Ryan Bertrand and Kyle Walker-Peters.
Brandon Williams Unlikely to Move to Southampton
Southampton have been in pursuit of Brandon Williams for a while now. They had tried to sign him on loan during the last transfer window, but a move failed to realize. According to Sky Sports, Southampton made an enquiry on the availability of Brandon Williams late last night.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United wanted a clause that set an agreement on the minimum number of matches for Williams. But, Ralph Hasenhuttl and Southampton were reluctant to make a guarantee and now the move looks unlikely to happen.
More Competition for Brandon Williams
Williams was reportedly interested in a move to St Mary’s in pursuit of more game time. Luke Shaw’s return to fitness and the impending arrival of Alex Telles has further pushed Williams down the pecking order in the left-back position, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Timothy Fosu-Mensah clearly look ahead of him at right-back.
Williams, who signed a contract extension in August, made 38 appearances for the Red Devils last season. He was one of the many youngsters that made their debut for Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. This season, though, the 20-year old is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League.
Busy Deadline Day expected for Manchester United
It’s expected to be a busy deadline for Manchester United. The Red Devils have reportedly signed the likes of Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani, while Chris Smalling is close to returning to Roma. United are also reportedly looking to add another right-winger to their squad, with Ousmane Dembele linked to the Red Devils.
