Alli Replacement?

Having struggled to settle at Manchester United since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as manager, it was rumoured that Spurs were interested in Lingard as a replacement for Dele Alli, whose own future in north London is uncertain.

However, according to The Athletic, there is “no chance” that Lingard would join Spurs as he is ‘not a player Mourinho is interested in’.

Praise From the Boss

After Lingard played the full 90 minutes in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup victory at Luton Town, Solskjaer said to Sky Sports: “I thought he was bright and he’s getting closer to a goal. He’s got legs and I thought he was bright and busy today.”

Asked about the possibility of any new signings, he continued: “We’re working with the ones we have now, and then let’s see what happens. We’ll keep you updated when and if something happens.”

Is There a Place for Jesse Lingard?

Following the fine form of attacking quartet Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood, Lingard has failed to get a consistent string of games together for the Red Devils.

The 27-year-old scored only one Premier League goal throughout the whole of last season, which came on the final day against Leicester City.

Having been frozen out of the picture somewhat at Old Trafford, it could be time for Lingard to look elsewhere in search of regular first-team football in the hope of resurrecting his career.

After being left out of the Spurs squad altogether for Sunday’s win at Southampton, Alli could be set for a move away from White Hart Lane, despite previously revealing that he was spurred on by Mourinho’s criticism of him as ‘lazy’ in Spurs’ All or Nothing documentary series for Amazon Prime Video.
